How Do You Tell if a Tree is Going to Uproot & Fall Over in Radnor, PA? Trees have Less Leaves & More

No one wants to remove a perfectly healthy tree. They provide shade to help protect you from the summer heat and give beauty to the landscape. However as trees age, they can catch disease or suffer from a drought. When they do, they become a problem. Trees in these scenarios are prone to falling over or uprooting. If the tree is located near your home then they can prove to be a hazard. The risk of a tree falling onto your home can lead to expensive repairs. Tree Craft will share warning signs of failing trees that are at risk of falling over or uprooting.

Warning Signs of a Falling Tree

1. Usually after a little bit of wind, you may notice the soil around a tree is loose or cracked. This is a sign a tree is in the beginning stages of uprooting. Roots of a tree can become weak due to drought or simply the tree grew too fast and is now too heavy for the root system to hold the tree in the ground. It is recommended removing the tree if it appears to be leaning over or the roots are becoming exposed. You can trim back and remove heavy branches if the tree appears healthy.
2. Some trees may lean before the soil loosens or cracks. Especially with larger trees, once they begin to lean they are slowly coming down. This become dangerous and the tree should be removed.
3. When trees become infected with diseases they may show some signs such as mold or fungal growth. When spores or mushrooms grow near or underneath the tree, this can also be a sign of root rot. Mold, fungus, mushrooms, or spores are not a good sign for the trees health. This could indicate the tree is dying. If the disease spreads too far, the tree will become weak, especially in the root. Diseased trees are at risk of uprooting or falling over and should be removed.
4. Another sign of poor health in trees is when they prematurely fall down or the leaves seem sparse. This can indicate the tree is unhealthy. The leaves can help provide some indicators that the tree is weakened from either disease or pests. Some bugs can eat the roots, causing trees to become weak. During the next major wind storm, the tree can fall over. You may want to attempt to save the tree. However, if you can press back and forth on the tree trunk and the tree wiggles, it may be safer to remove the tree.
5. When water rises from the ground or the soil seems to build up around the base of the tree, typically after a wind storm, this indicates that the tree was most likely shaking. If the roots were affected by the tree’s shaking during a wind storm, this isn’t a good thing. This tells you the roots are weak and can lead to uprooting. Often the tree grows faster than the roots and the weight of a tree can cause it to fall down. If the tree is healthy attempt to remove heavy branches to provide the roots some room to grow. If the tree is showing some other signs of poor health, then is it safer to remove the tree.
